Job Summary
The Associate Director of Individual Philanthropy works as part of the supervisory team for GLAAD's Major Gifts division and helps to administer, maintain and manage the GLAAD individual giving staff to expand the organization's individual giving programs, the Media Circle and the Alliance Circle. The Associate Director is also responsible for maintaining and expanding GLAAD's major donor base nationwide with an emphasis on the east coast. S/he will be responsible for building and managing a high-end portfolio of donors and prospects and will be part of a national team responsible for raising $5 million in annual major gifts in 2008 and 2009, with plans to significantly increase that amount in coming years. The Associate Director will also be directly responsible for working with the Director of Individual Philanthropy to supervise, strengthen, market and expand GLAAD's Legacy Circle program (planned giving program) nationwide. The Associate Director will play a leadership role in executing the formation, training, and management of volunteer fundraising and program corps.

Job Responsibilities
Major Gifts:
- Directly supervises two fundraising Officers. One officer is responsible for the maintenance and expansion of the GLAAD Media Circle program comprising donors who provide annual support between $1,500-$4,999. The other Officer works closely with the GLAAD Alliance Circle program comprising donors who provide annual support over $5,000;
- Oversees the Media Circle renewal and upgrade program and ensures a minimum renewal rate of 65%;
- Creates and monitors the annual individual giving revenue and expense budgets in conjunction with the Director of Individual Philanthropy;
- Learns all aspects of the GLAAD individual giving programs and the roster of current major donors;
- As part of the national development team, helps shape overall fundraising policies and strategies with the Director of Individual Philanthropy in order to continue the exponential growth of revenue coming from larger individual gifts;
- Meets or exceeds personal major gifts revenue goals on an annual basis; specifically focuses on the identification, cultivation, solicitation and retention of Alliance Circle members (donors giving $5,000 or more annually) and a personal fundraising portfolio that accounts for nearly $500,000 per year in sustainable, new, annual revenue, with appropriate increases in each subsequent year;
- Works with the individual giving team to develop an annual strategy for acquiring and retaining new and renewing major donors;
- Oversees the creation and monitoring of the annual Media Circle events calendar nationwide and ensures that the Media Circle team successfully plans and implements the fundraising and appreciation events focused on increasing participation in GLAAD?s Media Circle program;
- Effectively manages the Media Circle team to expand GLAAD?s Leadership Council program with a focus on east coast and central region markets (volunteer major donor and membership fundraising and program committees);
- Works with the Board of Directors to engage current and prospective major donors, including correspondence and in-person meetings with a focus on individual gifts of $5,000+ annually;
- Responsible for overseeing major donor cultivation and/or appreciation events in our primary east coast cities of New York, Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, Dallas, Chicago and D.C. (and other locales as may be determined);
- Works with the Director of Individual Philanthropy and the Senior Director of Development to implement strategic marketing and communication initiatives; design and implement specific campaigns, outreach efforts and events for cultivation and solicitation of major gifts;
- Directs and to implements research on prospective and current major donors;
- Keeps abreast of federal and state tax laws that may be relevant to major donor gift prospects;
- Prepares reports as requested by the Director of Individual Philanthropy; and
- Completes other tasks as requested.
Planned Giving:
- Identifies planned gift prospects nationwide and develops a portfolio of at minimum 100 planned giving prospects in the first 12 months from the GLAAD donor database and in conjunction with the individual giving team, board members, and senior volunteer leaders;
- Develops and executes a marketing plan for the GLAAD Legacy Circle that encompasses a variety of outreach and educational efforts about the program to the GLAAD constituent base, including but not limited to educational and informational gatherings for Legacy Circle prospects and donors;
- Cultivates meaningful and ongoing relationships with current members of the GLAAD Legacy Circle in tandem with other members of the individual giving team; and
- Prepares monthly and quarterly reports for the Director of Major Individual Philanthropy that demonstrate progress toward meeting goals of growth and that assess and outline the effectiveness of various marketing efforts of the GLAAD Legacy Circle.

Qualifications
- Required: College degree from accredited University;
- Required: A minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated success as a front-line fundraiser who demonstrates progressively more responsibility over time, with an emphasis on managing staff and securing individual major donor contributions;
- Required: A proven track record of closing annual gifts of $5,000 or more;
- Required: A proven track record in managing a planned giving program and marketing such a program to a donor base;
- Required: A proven track record of well-honed skills in developing long-term donor cultivation and solicitation strategies;
- Familiarity with planned giving techniques and relevant aspects of financial planning;
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills; a high level of comfort with direct donor interaction, including discussions of personal and family finances;
- Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Excellent time management skills;
- Creativity, energy, confidence and integrity;
- Initiative and independence, combined with the ability to work well as part of a team;
- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and to succeed under pressure;
- Ability to be both engaging and professional when making presentations at events and meetings;
- Ability to work well with others and to exhibit strong interpersonal skills;
- Strong research background;
- Strong knowledge of word processing, donor database (Raiser?s Edge a plus) and spreadsheet programs;

Supervision
The Associate Director of Individual Philanthropy reports directly to the Director of Individual Philanthropy and directly supervises two Officers based on the East Coast and one Associate.
Compensation
Salary commensurate with experience.
