full time Development Director

at Out & Equal in California-San Francisco

SUMMARY
We have an excellent opportunity for a Development Director in our San Francisco, CA, office. The director is responsible for managing the Development Department in a fiscally sound manner by ensuring that the appropriate systems, staffing, and procedures are in place to support all fundraising and revenue goals. Duties include but are not limited to:

- Creating and managing a long-term Development plan that is aligned with the organization's strategic plan, and developing and implementing an annual fundraising plan (including fundraising calendar of major events and initiatives);
- Building and managing the corporate sponsorship program, major donor campaign, board giving plan, individual donations, partnerships with local and international businesses, community groups, and special fundraising events;
- Developing a planned giving campaign, and working toward establishing an endowment;
- Preparing and overseeing all direct mail letters, grants, relevant brochures, and sponsorship proposals, required to support fundraising efforts to ensure that Out and Equal Workplace Advocates remains a philanthropic home for donors at all levels of giving;
- Making donor stewardship a priority by ensuring that all donors receive regular communications, that they are appropriately acknowledged, and that records of their gifts are maintained;
- Participating and providing leadership in developing new relationships, and strengthening current relationships with major donors;
- Broadening and diversifying Out & Equal's base of funding, and making recommendations regarding strengthening and building of our donor database;
- Working with the founding executive director, deputy director, managing director, staff, and volunteers to build participation with the annual United Way of the Bay Area Fundraising Campaign;
- Providing detailed reports about the status of fundraising efforts to the board and executive management team on a regular basis;
- Playing a proactive and creative leadership role in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of corporate sponsorship for the annual Workplace Summit, including pre-and post-conference communications and onsite management;
- Working with key staff to manage grant writing and research projects;
- Serving as a visible spokesperson and advocate for Out & Equal?s mission and programs in the funding community;
- Building community partnerships with local businesses, community groups and organizations.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree (MBA preferred)
- Five years of proven experience managing donor campaigns, major and annual gifts, grant writing, corporate sponsorship and foundation giving, direct mail, and special events
- Three years of demonstrated experience in managing people and budgets
- Ability to work in a hands-on environment with limited resources
- Experienced strategist with demonstrated ability to speak in public
- Computer literacy and knowledge of Raiser?s Edge highly desirable
- A strong commitment to equality for members of the LGBT community
- Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills
- Strong written and communication skills
- Self-starter; able to work independently, and as part of a team
- Ability to work effectively with staff, committees, and clients in a diverse community

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Knowledge of office procedures and practices, correct punctuation and grammatical usage, referencing methods, and the types and uses of office materials and machines. Strong knowledge of personal computers and various software, specifically MSWord, Access, Excel, and Power Point. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports, to do both complex and routine clerical work effectively under pressure and with frequent interruptions, to type 60 wpm, to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Advanced customer service communication skills. Demonstrated ability to multi-task. Knowledge of the LGBT community preferred, but not necessary.
