Deputy Director
at Out & Equal in California-San Francisco
SUMMARY
The Deputy Director will be a fundamental member of the Out & Equal executive management team and participate in long-range planning and overall management of the organization. This is a new position, which reports directly to the Founding Executive Director. The Deputy Director assists with planning strategies, projects, and programs to increase visibility, ensure the smooth operation of programs, and staff management.
The Deputy Director for Out & Equal will be based in the organization?s San Francisco headquarters. The position is responsible for managing integration, coordination, and continuity across program areas, and fulfillment of the organization?s 3-year strategic plan.
The ideal candidate will bring energy, vision, and resourcefulness to this important position. Must have a strong working knowledge of nonprofit management principles and practices; general administrative principles, practices, and methods; budget development and management; supervisory experience, including techniques of planning and delegating work. Candidate must have strong leadership, decision making, interpersonal, planning, and organizational skills; solid presentation, negotiation, problem solving, conflict resolution, and meeting management skills. Must be comfortable and up-to-date on the use of technology.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Supervising, directing, motivating and evaluating staff
-Project Management
-Remaining aware of and well-versed in organizational progress toward programmatic strategic objectives and goals
-Serving as secondary organizational liaison to the Board of Directors, including providing regular reporting to the Board, participating in Board meetings and committee meetings, and cultivating relationships with new and prospective Board members
-Managing major organizational decisions and potential crisis situations
-Spearheading strategic planning and other clarifying, defining and/or shifting of organizational priorities.
-Developing plans to enhance the organization?s presence in the community, through technology, website, and publications
-Managing relationships with other organizations, community groups
-Assuring diversity of staff as well as diversity outreach for the organization
-Managing and directing organization?s overall messaging, and serving as spokesperson for the organization when necessary
-Creating and overseeing program management function to ensure tight coordination and efficient support for programs and program staff
-Community relations and attendance at company and constituent events
Requirements
-Seasoned professional who has effectively managed programs and strategic direction for a significant, high-profile organization such as a major nonprofit entity, government agency, or public corporation.
-Experience in strategic planning, preferably in a leadership role, which resulted in improved efficiency and sustainability of an organization or company
-Bachelor?s degree required, Masters preferred
-Demonstrated excellent leadership, analytical, interpersonal, and written and oral skills
-Experience and skills in public speaking
-Experience creating and managing budgets, and overseeing finances generally
-Strong networking, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
-Experience in resource development and proven track record in expanding revenues
-Understanding of, commitment to, and passion for LGBT equality, especially in the workplace
-Commitment to mentorship and fostering leadership opportunities for others.
-Demonstrated commitment to accountability, measuring outcomes, and a results-oriented culture
-Strong analytical, administrative, organizational and time management skills
-Ability to work with diverse groups of people
-Sound judgment, professionalism, and a positive attitude
-Resourcefulness, creativity, and strong problem-solving skills
-Enthusiasm for, and commitment to, the foundation?s mission, issues and ideas
