Background:
Founded in 1979, Family Equality Council (www.familyequality.org) is the national organization exclusively dedicated to securing social justice and equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) parents and their children. We provide direct support to LGBT families, educate the American public, and advance policy reform. FEC has offices in Boston, Washington, D.C., and Minneapolis.
Roles & Responsibilities:
National LGBT family organization is recruiting a DC-based intern to assist its communications office. Candidates should be skilled writers, familiar with LGBT and/or progressive issues and steeped in new media tactics. Position requires 20 hours of work.
Qualifications:
• Working towards an Undergraduate degree in a related field
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• Ability to work independently and proactively
• Sensitive to diversity and able to work respectfully on LGBT issues including adoption, marriage equality, and family policy
