Fall 2011 Development Internship

Development Internship
Background:
Founded in 1979, Family Equality Council (www.familyequality.org) is the national organization exclusively dedicated to securing social justice and equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) parents and their children. We provide direct support to LGBT families, educate the American public, and advance policy reform. FEC has offices in Boston, Washington, D.C., and Minneapolis.
Roles & Responsibilities:
The Development Intern will be vital in supporting the fundraising efforts of the organization including event support, grant writing, corporate sponsorships, donor communications, and additional special projects. Other duties will include administrative tasks as needed. This individual will work in close partnership with the rest of the Advancement team to ensure the successful execution of a multi-pronged fundraising agenda.
Responsibilities & Qualifications:
Interns are responsible for providing support services as assigned for all of Family Equality Council’s undertakings, including events, resource requests, material updates, communications and other special projects.
Projects will include, but are not limited to:
• Research and track corporate sponsorship opportunities;
• Track the status of grants;
• Work closely with the Advancement team on coordinating upcoming events;
• Create materials for upcoming events;
• Assist in major donor, grant, and sponsorship acknowledgement and gratitude;
• Execute writing and research assignments as needed;
• Provide auxiliary support for fundraising events .
Qualifications:
• Working towards an Undergraduate degree in a related field
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• Ability to work independently and proactively
• Sensitive to diversity and able to work respectfully on LGBT issues including adoption, marriage equality, and family policy
