Full-time Director of the GLBTQ Resource Center

at University of Colorado at Boulder in Colorado-Boulder/Fort Collins

Position Description:
The GLBTQ Resource Center has an opening for / seeks / invites applications for a full-time Director of the GLBTQ Resource Center. This position is an exempt professional position that reports to the Assistant Dean of Students and is located in the Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Queer Resource Center (GLBTQRC) at the University of Colorado Boulder in the division of Student Affairs. The director provides leadership and direction to the GLBTQRC and serves as a resource for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, ally, and similarly identified students, faculty, and staff as well as multiculturalism and social justice issues on the CU Boulder Campus. The position of Director oversees the operations of the department, manages the departmental budget, supervises departmental staff and volunteers, formulates and implements specific projects; ensures inclusion in the development of GLBTQRC policies, services, and programs; serves as a spokesperson, representative, consultant and trainer on GLBTQ and social justice issues to other campus and community organizations and committees; designs systems, guidelines, and standards for GLBTQRC operations; provides direction for and assessment of GLBTQRC programs and services that complement the University\'s commitment to enhancing student success, retention, and satisfaction through engagement; directs grant writing and other fundraising activities and helps with general administrative duties. The Director partners with students, faculty, and Student Affairs staff to develop, plan, and implement GLBTQ and social justice programs that incorporate queer, social justice, leadership, and student development theories; develops and executes leadership training opportunities for GLBTQ and Ally students; and examines the inclusivity and equity of GLBTQ individuals in campus policies and procedures and advocates for policy and procedure change when necessary.

Job Responsibilities:
Strategic visioning and Project Development (20%)
1) Formulates and implements an inclusive vision and mission, goals, and objectives for the GLBTQRC
2) Leads collaborative efforts with multiple campus stakeholders
3) Establishes a comprehensive set of learning outcomes that includes an assessment plan
4) Incorporates research and national trends in the field of higher education GLBTQ resource provision and social justice theory, queer theory, and student identity development theory
5) Formulates and implements projects targeted toward GLBTQ and Ally communities
6) Supports the development of structures to further enhance the quality of life of GLBTQ and Ally students, faculty, and staff of campus
7) Designs systems, guidelines, and standards for GLBTQ Resource Center

Student Involvement, Leadership, Support, and Advocacy (40%)
1) Serves as a resource for staff, students, faculty as well as outreach to GLBTQ and Ally communities both on and off campus
2) Creates major campus wide events, trainings, and lectures for campus presentations and designs the content and structure of education programs that are based on current national best practices
3) Represents the GLBTQRC on select University committees involved with diversity, inclusive campus climate, social justice, and multicultural responsiveness, recognizing that systems of oppression exist that make many identities interdependent
4) Supports students one-on-one and in group settings through mentorship, active listening, good communication skills, and by providing adequate resources and referrals when needed, using background knowledge in student development, crisis counseling, and social justice theory
5) Advises student groups and mentors and provides leadership training opportunities for student leaders using leadership and student development theories
6) Educates, advocates, and apprises Student Affairs administration/leadership on emerging issues primarily affecting GLBTQ and Ally students, as well as affecting other underrepresented groups on campus

Campus and Community Outreach, Marketing, and Support (10%)
1) Communicates, collaborates, and consults with campus and community organizations by meeting with individuals from these organization one-on-one, exchanging ideas and resources, and collaborating on project together
2) Oversees the designing and production of appropriate materials to raise campus awareness of GLBTQ and Ally services and resources
3) Approves and oversees marketing messages for materials such as fliers, handbills, website information, posters, calendars, and brochures
4) Oversees GLBTQRC outreach initiatives, including tabling
5) Develops collaborative partnerships with faculty and staff to improve the campus climate for GLBTQ and Ally individuals
6) Responds to crises that develop on campus that affect GLBQ and Ally individuals as victims and/or as allies

Human Resource Management (15%)
1) Directly supervises the Assistant Director
2) Co-manages student employees and volunteers with the Assistant Director
3) Co-supervises/advises the GLBTQ Student Advisory Board
4) Works with Assistant Director to select and appoint student staff and volunteers
5) Develops work schedules, reviews work and approves time off for Assistant Director, student staff, and volunteers

Fundraising, Budget, and Fiscal Operations (15%)
1) Manages the GLBTQRC budget and oversees spending
2) Creates and presents financial reports for the CU Student Government (CUSG) Finance Board
3) Works with CUSG to present and negotiate the CUSG-funded portion of the GLBTQRC
4) Leads fundraising efforts via grant writing, reviewing, and editing
5) Works with the CU Foundation and Alumni Association to coordinate and implement donor cultivation and other fundraising related activities
6) Purchases services on and off campus
7) Processes financial paperwork such as PCard documentation

Required Education/Experience/Skills (Minimum Qualifications)
Required Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor\'s degree that included at least six semester hours in GLBTQ and Ally studies, women\'s studies, ethnic studies, sociology or psychology or related field
- Three years of professional experience working with GLBTQ , social justice, and diversity related programs in a non-profit or higher education organization
- At least one year of supervision experience. Supervision experience may include professional staff graduate students and or student staff.
- Demonstrated excellence in serving a diverse student community
- Two years previous experience managing and assessing programs and services
- Experience managing a budget

Required Competencies:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills

Desired Qualifications:
- A master\'s degree in student development, higher education administration, or a related field
- Experience in a campus based student affairs position, such as a GLBTQ Resource Center, student activities, social justice, diversity, and multicultural programs, or student life development
- Experience at a comprehensive research extensive (Research I) university
- Experience with leadership development, advocacy, and activism
- Experience with grant-writing

Salary and Benefits: Salary range is $51,000 to $63,000.
