Ok. I was hired by Extendicare and did not hide the fact that I was transsexual. Some of my friends were hired by Google who knew they were trans. Any others?
Hi Jillian; I just got back from the OutandEqual Summit in Austin, Tx.,{ www.OutandEqual.org } and there were 2,500 of our LGBT sisters and brothers in attendance at the 4 day event, as well as over 400 of the Fortune 1000 companies present, many who had a booth in the vendor area. There were hundreds of Transgender women and men present, who are out and working within their companies, at all levels of the business, as well as their company's ERG's (Employee Resource Groups.) We had an incredible diversity of workshops, seminars and speakers at the Summit who are Transgender, including Megan Wallent who is currently an executive with Microsoft at their corporate headquarters in Washington. I would strongly encourage people in our community to go to the above website and check out the diversity of companies who currently employ and promote Transgender women and men. I currently serve as OutandEqual's Chair of their Transgender Advisory Board, and it is our mission, as Transgender women and men, to help OutandEqual improve workplace (policies, benefits, employment, etc.) for people in our community. I would also recommend that individuals go to the Corporate Equality Index...... ->link<- to check out hundreds of companies who score 100% on the CEI. This represents an outstanding workplace and company/organization for Transgender women and men, (as well as members of the Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual community too.)
I hope that we will see a lot of people from our community at the upcoming SCC Career Expo, on Friday October 3rd in the hotel where the SCC will be held. Thanks and good luck with your new website.
I'd like to know which of these companies have knowingly hired transgender candidates? If I can verify that they have, I can add them to the truly inclusive list on TJobBank.
I know people who have transitioned on the job, which is not quite the same as being hired by a company when they know you are a trans-person. It's great that some companies 'let' us transition on the job, but I'd like to know which ones have actually, knowingly hired transgender people. I've already listed some of them on the site.
People transitioning on the job are already working. I'm concerned with the unemployed.
As for HRC's CEI . . . There is no verification done on the employers to see if they actually hire transgender people. I personally know of companies on the list that are NOT trans-inclusive and have NOT met HRC's own requirements. HRC accepts money from these same companies. HRC threatened politicians with their 'score card' if they voted against a the Trans-Inclusive ENDA.
I feel that their rating system is invalid for those reasons.
